WHO ARE WE?
Azúcar is a Puerto Rican Pop-Up Bakery based out of East Nashville. We launched this bakery so that we can share our culture with our community. There is nothing like Azúcar in Middle Tennessee, but we hope to inspire others to share their cultural gifts with the community.
WHAT DOES AZÚCAR MEAN?
Azúcar means sugar in Spanish.
HAVE A CAFECITO AND LET ME TELL YOU MY STORY...
I am a Puerto Rican that was born and raised in Miami now living in Nashville, TN.
For as long as I can remember, the kitchen was the most exciting place to be. Every special occasion, our family would hang around the kitchen counter taking the aromas from my grandmother's cooking. We would talk, share stories, and banter to pass the time until we can sit down to eat.
When she was approaching her 60's, she decided to go to culinary school to expand her knowledge in desserts and pastries. This is where my love for the kitchen truly began. I would watch her experiment, teach herself new techniques, watch her focusing on cooking shows. She was inspiring.
When I became a mother, I continued the tradition that was passed down to me but I also exposed my kids to the American dishes I grew to love. It always made my heart full making my kids and close friends happy with my cooking but I didn't develop the passion until COVID happened.
Unfortunately, in 2020, I was hitting my 25th year in the accounting industry. I was getting burnt out and frustrated with the monotony, but then, this year, with the support of my husband and children, I finally retired from the rat race of the accounting world and have decided to dedicate my time bringing my dream of having a bakery to fruition.
I look forward to sharing my creations with the local community.
